One Dramatic A.I. Breakdance
By now, I assume you have seen the A.I. robot face-planting while dancing to Billie Jean in China. Just in case you haven’t, here is the dramatic play-by-play.
It starts off great. He dominates the situation with swag for the first 2.25 seconds (that’s what she said).
Unfortunately that was the last semblance of normalcy for the dance routine. Enter Steps(man).
Crisis was averted! I was really impressed at how quickly it recovered and was ready for another go at it (that’s what she said again?)
Unfortunately, that was the last normal second of this robot’s life. Tragedy was just around the corner. It was no match for man made steps and it’s MJ dance turned into a literal break dance. Look away unless you enjoy watching videos of car crashes.
This was the beginning of 10 FULL SECONDS of this machine lying there motionless. Unable to help itself or resolve the situation. Unable to entertain the audience. Unable to use logic to stand itself back up. The A.I was rendered useless until a human being cleaned up the mess. If this isn’t a metaphor for A.I. I don’t know what is.
Human touch
Speaking of unreliable A.I. - I was recently generating a presentation on Zero-party data and I wanted to include some statistics for my deck. As is the standard now, I asked Claude for some statistics that would help tell the story. It spit out the numbers below.
I wanted to properly cite the origin of the statistics so I asked Claude where it pulled the numbers from.
Good thing I verified because Claude made up statistics. I tried relying on A.I. to perform a task reliably and it face planted, just like the Chinese robot. At the end of the day, a human had to spend time cleaning up A.I.’s mess. This totally derailed the progress I was making on the deck.
I hope all of the companies replacing their staff entirely with A.I. are paying close attention to the dancing robot. A.I. is fantastic for many things but if you aren’t backing it up with human touch, you will probably regret it. Be it an incorrect presentation, a breakdancing robot faceplant or the haunted Waymo’s in Atlanta that spent hours driving in circles.
